Food Transition guide from other dog food to Victor: How easy is to to transition from other dog food?
The only other thing that we would suggest is if you are going from a higher protein formula down to a lower protein formula, we would recommend cutting back on the amount of food you give the dog for about 1 week.
Example is if you feed 2 cups of a 33% protein, give them 1 1/2 cups for a few days just so their bodies can get used to the lower amount of protein
It is always a good idea to transition your dog from one food to another, especially if you are introducing them to a new brand. By transitioning your dog from one food to a new one you are lowering their risk of having an upset stomach and allowing them a chance to get used to any new flavors or textures they may not be familiar with. VICTOR recommends a ten day transition period for your pet.
For days one through three of transitioning it is proposed to keep your pet’s food bowl filled with 75 percent of their current food with only 25 percent of VICTOR food mixed in. Continue to feed your dog the same amount of food as before but simply replace 25 percent of the food with VICTOR. When adding this small amount dogs are able to get acquainted with the new taste of the food and their bodies are able to digest the new food without being overwhelmed by it.
The next three days after the initial introduction, days four through six, you should lower the old dog food to only 50 percent of the total food portion while VICTOR should make up the other half of the portion. Now that your pet has been eating VICTOR for a few days they will be prepared to eat a larger quantity.
The next step will be to lower the quantity of the old food to 25 percent and to bring in more VICTOR to make up the other 75 percent of the meal. These feeding dimensions should be during days seven through nine of the transition.
On day ten you should be feeding your dog 100 percent VICTOR pet food. At this point your dogs should be used to the new food in both flavor and digestion and will be fully familiar with their new food. Moving forward, your dog should be fine with eating and enjoying only VICTOR pet food.
